LIBRARY of CONGRESS of the UNITED STATES
Of the eight inscriptions which adorn the inner sanctum of the library's
Main Reading Room, four of these extol God's greatness.
The above damsel represents Religion. The Scripture chosen to best describe Religion
is taken from the Old Testament Prophet Micah:
"What doth the Lord require of thee but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk
humbly with thy God," -MICAH 6:8

THE FIFTH DAY of CREATION
On the roof level of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, are Seven
Aubusson Tapestries entitled: "The Seven Days of Creation" by Australian artist
John Coburn. Gift of Australia to the memory of John F Kennedy, they depict God's creation
of the universe in Genesis, Chapter One. The artist's own caption for the Fifth Day of
Creation reads:
"God created the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and the beasts of the
dry land"

"Justice the Guardian of Liberty"
EAST PORTICO of the SUPREME COURT of the UNITED STATES
Above the Bench, on the outer facade of the Supreme Court, this outstanding sculpture
by Herman McNeil shows Moses in the center, seated in the Chair of the Law. He holds the
two tablets of the Law, the Ten Commandments, in either hand. On either side are lawmakers
of the past. The Ten Commandments are also featured in prominence above the Bench in the
Inner Courtroom of the Supreme Court.

"The Genius of America"
MARBLE BAS RELIEF
Above the East Steps of the Capitol, traditional site where United States Presidents
are sworn into office with their left hand upon the Bible is Luigi Persico's magnificent
portrayal of "The Genius of America". America stands in the center with a
spear behind her and a shield with U.S.A. upon it. To the right, HOPE beckons her to
proceed, but she points towards JUSTICE, to her left who holds a pair of scales and a
scroll, with CONSTITUTION, 17 September 1787, upon it. The implication is that without
Justice, there is no Hope for America, her Hope being squarely based upon the
Constitution, which is based upon the Declaration of Independence, which in turn is based
upon the Word of God.
